📄 GUIDELINES FOR SIGNAGE REGISTRATION

Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KASA)


🧾 1. INTRODUCTION

These guidelines provide the procedure for the registration, approval, and regulation of signage and advertisement structures in Kano State in accordance with the Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency Law, 2025.

All individuals, businesses, and organizations intending to erect or display any signage must comply with these guidelines.


🏷 2. TYPES OF SIGNS COVERED

The following signage types require registration and/or permit:

  • On-Premises Signs (Shop/Business Signs)
  • Off-Premises Signs (Billboards)
  • Wall Signs
  • Roof Signs
  • Directional Signs
  • LED/Digital Screens
  • Mobile/Portable Signs
  • Banners, Posters & Promotional Signs

👉 All outdoor advertising structures must be registered with the Agency.


📂 3. REQUIREMENTS FOR REGISTRATION

Applicants must provide:

🧍 Applicant Details

  • Name of applicant / company
  • Business registration (CAC certificate if applicable)
  • Valid identification
  • Contact address and phone number

📍 Signage Details

  • Type of signage
  • Location/site address
  • Size/dimension of signage
  • Design/sample of signage

📄 Supporting Documents

  • Site ownership or consent letter
  • Structural design (for billboards)
  • Tax clearance (if required)

💳 4. APPLICATION & PAYMENT PROCESS

Step 1:

Submit application to KASA

Step 2:

Application is reviewed and site inspected

Step 3:

Assessment and bill generated

Step 4:

Payment of:

  • Processing fee
  • Permit fee
  • Inspection fee

👉 Payment must be made through approved government channels


💰 5. APPROVED FEES (SUMMARY)

  • Processing Fee – ₦50,000
  • Inspection Fee – ₦50,000 per site
  • Additional Inspection Site – ₦25,000

🧾 6. REGISTRATION & PERMIT

  • Every signage must be registered first
  • A registration number will be issued
  • A permit will be granted after payment
  • Permit is renewable annually

⏳ 7. PROCESSING TIME

  • Processing depends on:
    • Completeness of documents
    • Payment confirmation
    • Site inspection

👉 Typically processed within a few working days after compliance


📜 8. CONDITIONS & COMPLIANCE

All signage must:

  • Meet approved size and structure standards
  • Not obstruct traffic or visibility
  • Not endanger public safety
  • Be properly maintained

👉 Non-compliant signs may be removed by the Agency


🚫 9. PROHIBITED ACTIONS

It is unlawful to:

  • Install signage without registration
  • Place posters on roads, bridges, or public structures
  • Display offensive or illegal content
  • Obstruct traffic or public view

⚠️ 10. OFFENCES & PENALTIES

  • Fine up to ₦100,000 or imprisonment
  • Continued violation may lead to:
    • Removal of structure
    • Additional fines

  • Permits are valid for one year
  • Must be renewed annually
  • Late renewal may attract penalties
