This guideline outlines the procedure for obtaining a New Driver’s Licence in Kano State.
Driver’s Licence issuance is processed separately from vehicle registration and follows a standardized biometric and verification process.
📂 2. REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are required to provide:
- Valid means of identification
- Proof of address
- National Identification Number (NIN) (where applicable)

🧪 3. TESTING & CAPTURE PROCESS
Applicants must undergo the following mandatory procedures at the licensing centre:
👁 Sight (Eye) Test
- Conducted by Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO)
- Confirms visual fitness for driving
👍 Biometric Capture (at FRSC Office, KIRS Premises, Bank Road, Kano )

- Thumbprint (Fingerprint Capture)
- Facial Capture (Photograph)

💳 4. PAYMENT
- Applicable fees must be paid through approved channels

5 Years = N21,000 - Tricycle/Motorcycle
3 Years N7,000
5 Years = N11,000
🧾 5. ISSUANCE OF TEMPORARY LICENCE
- After successful completion of:
- Tests
- Biometric capture
- Payment
👉 Applicant will be issued a:
Temporary Driver’s Licence
- Valid for 3 weeks (21 days)
📜 6. ISSUANCE OF PERMANENT LICENCE
- The original (permanent) driver’s licence will be produced and issued within the 3-week period
- Applicant will be notified when ready for collection
