Kano, France Deepen Partnership on National Water Sector Reforms

‎‎…As French Ambassador Reaffirms Commitment to Kano’s Development Agenda
‎Kano State Government and the Government of France have strengthened cooperation under the National Water Sector Reform Programme, which focuses on social-state improvement, institutional efficiency, and sustainable water management.
‎This was contained in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa on Wednesday.
‎Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf received the French Ambassador, Mr. Marc Fonbaustier, who led an eight-member delegation to Government House, Kano.
‎The visit reviewed the progress of ongoing water projects and explored new areas of collaboration.
‎The Ambassador said the size and calibre of his team reflect the high importance France attaches to Kano and the entire northern region.
‎He noted that France and Nigeria share a “common destiny,” and his mission was to reaffirm France’s commitment to its partnership with the state.
‎Ambassador Fonbaustier explained that the national reform programme emphasizes social impact rather than hardware investments, with attention on governance, capacity development, and long-term sustainability.
‎He confirmed that France is already supporting key water-sector initiatives in Kano and is prepared to deepen its engagement.
‎ “Our cooperation with Kano is solid, and today’s discussions opened new opportunities for expanded partnership,” he said.
‎He also identified transportation and mobility as promising areas for future collaboration.
‎In his remark governor Yusuf thanked the French Government for its sustained support and reiterated his commitment to ensuring reliable, accessible, and socially responsive water services for the people of Kano.
‎He assured that Kano will continue to align with national reform objectives by strengthening institutions, promoting transparency, and improving sector performance.
